Carlos

Carlos

The only way to work the fields, especially when there's no fuel to be had, is from the saddle of a good horse. An afternoon off to take a couple of city slickers on a ride through the tobacco fields can be a real test of a seasoned cowboy's patience.

Sammy

Sammy

He called himself Sammy because he bore an uncanny resemblance to Sammy Davis Jr. He latched onto tourists in La Plaza de Armas in Havana to scratch out a living, but that turned out to be a good thing. For a couple of beers and a few dollars, he guided us around the old city with wit and charm.

Lazaro

Lazaro

It was supposed to be a Mexican restaurant, but they ran out of chicken, pork, and tortillas. Still, the evening took a turn for the better when the band started playing. Pat tried cheating but it didn't work.
